BASRAB National Cricket Knock-Out Final 1979

Metro v Worcester College

Article taken from "Participation" magazine Autumn 1979

The National Cricket Knock-Out Competition organised by BASRAB reached its exciting climax on Saturday 14 July 1979 at Northolt.

The previous fortnight saw the first Semi-Final take place at Worcester. After a good afternoon's cricket Worcester College won by beating Nomads.

The morning of the final saw the other Semi-Final take place, and after a tense game, Metro came out on top over Worcester Old Boys. For the Final itself, the scene was set, and excitement mounted as Worcester College batted first and made 54, this being due to outstanding bowling by K Wells, whose figures were 4 overs, 3 maidens, 4 wickets for 4 runs. Metro went into bat with 54 to beat. They made the runs and reached 56 for 3, becoming the competition's first winners.

Metro was presented with a Trophy donated by the Lord's Taverners and the players and umpireswere presented with individual medals donated by the London Association for the Blind. Congratulations to Metro and also Worcester College for making such a splendid effort.

After this year's successful competition it is hoped that next year ther will be a few more teams "Participating".

My sincere thanks go to R Goulden, D Wilson and the other members of the BASRAB Cricket Sub-Committee for their sterling efforts over the past year, and for the co-operation og the clubs that took part without whose combined efforts theis competition could not have taken place.
