Metro overpower London Sports.

Metro V London BCEW league

Saturday 15th July 2006

By Dave Townley

Metro were far too strong for 9-man London Sports at Highgate on Saturday. In what was almost perfect weather conditions, London won the toss and elected to field.

Not for the first time this season, Rory Field stood out for Metros batting line-up, and totally dominated the oppositions bowling attack. The on-slaught was brutal as he hit 27 fours, and 1 six, in an innings of 151 not out. He shared an opening parnership of 162 with Rob Kershaw (44), and an unbroken 100plus second wicket stand with David Townley (30no), as Metro amassed 269-1 in 19 overs, and duly declared.

Metro were clinical in executing the task of dismissing Londons batsmen. Heindrich Swanepoel (2 wickets for 1 run) struck in the first over when Matt Dean took his first of two catches, to dismiss Ali Safder without a run on the board. Mohammed Zaheer fell in Swanepoels second over to a catch by Field, and the wickets kept tumbling. A couple of run outs, a wicket for Amit Amin (1-7), set the stage for a final burst from Kershaw. He cleaned up the tail with 3 for 11, as London were finally all out for just 30, and Metro completed a comfortable 239 run victory.
