Bears V VIXINS 13th August 2005

Warwickshire Bears V Northamptonshire VIXINS BBS National Cricket League Division 2

Report by Alan Humphries

A cloudy day saw the first game of Blind Cricket at Solihull Cricket Club on Sunday 13 August.

After a gap of 5 weeks both teams returned to action in the 2nd Division with Northants losing the toss and being asked to bat by the hosts. The first wicket fell at the end of the first over with Mark Provan being run out for 1 off a run that was never there.

Wickets fell steadily after this but Northants gathering runs for the Bears best friend, extras! The danger men Goodyear and Alastair Provan fell to catches in the deep and behind respectively with the one in the deep being a brilliantly held catch by Andy Powers. The tail was eventually mopped up by the Bear's Captain and Vice-Captain Griffiths and Humphries with Northants finishing on 117 all out off 26.2 overs leaving Warwickshire to get 118 off 33.

Warwickshire's opening stand saw the game virtually over with the first wicket of Powers falling with the score on 88 and Foy then falling when the score was on 104. Eventually Griffths and Harrison saw the score through to 188 off 12.4 overs with Griffiths carrying his bat.

Warwickshire are now creeping back up the table with 50 points in total following the points deduction earlier in the season with another 25 points whilst Northants picked up 5.
