Leeds V Bears 20th August 2005

Leeds and District V Warwickshire Bears BBS National Cricket League Division 2

Report by Alan Humphries

Both games took place at the much impoved Wigton Manor Junior Football Club in excellent cricketing conditions. In the first game Warwickshire won the toss and asked their hosts to bat and reduced them to 36 all out off 19.1 overs with notebale contributions from two very young players Hassan and Israar who are talents for the future if they are nurtured properly. Bowling of the match went to Gav Griffiths and Andy Powers with 3 for 9 and 4 for 8 respectively with Wareen Lee taking the others. A quick turn around saw the runs polished off in 4.2 overs - Griffihts not out 16 and Powers not out 19 and a comfortable 10 wicket victory.

As tea was about to be taken and as it was only 3pm, Leeds asked us if we would like to play the second game there and then to which we readily agreed to so a night on the beer could be had with no need for a guilty conscience the following morning!!

In the second match the stand in Leeds Captain, Shah, called incorrectly and Leeds were asked to bat again this time making a better job of it, getting 83 all out with a noteable contribution of 18 from Hassan but a less noteable contribution of 31 extras! Bowling contributions came from Prashar with 4 wickets and Lee with 3 and Powers 2 taking his total to 6 for the day. 7.3 overs later these runs were polished off for the loss of Griffiths only for 14 and Powers and Foy finishing not out on 36 and 24 respectively.

Each match was finished with a huge six from Powers over mid wicket!

So, Warwickshire amassed 50 points with their two games against Vipers to play which will be the 2nd Division deciders and Leeds got 1 point.
