Northamptonshrie VIXINS V Worcestershire Royals BBS National Cricket League Division 2

Report from www.northantsblindcricket.com

Northamptonshire VIXINS survived a nervous last few overs to earn a hard fought draw against Eastern Vipers in Ely last Sunday.

A third over breakthrough gave Northants hope early on when David Gavrilovic bowled out vipers opener Nikhil Nair for just 2 runs. After that however Vipers number 3 Ben Armitage took control of the match. Armitage a b4 from Cambridge hit won of the highest scores in blind cricket history with an unbelievable 248 not out. Northants did get a second wicket when Vipers opener Alan Chamley retired out but Vipers ended up scoring 367 for 2. A special mention is deserved by Tony White who's excellent fielding helped to prevent at least 20 runs.
This left Northants needing to survive 32 overs to earn a draw. The innings started badly with both openers departing in the first five overs. However Ian Goodearl and David Gavrilovic produced a fantastic comeback with a third wicket partnership lasting 14 overs and adding 112 to the score before Ian was out caught for an excellent 75. When you remember this was Ian's first ever league match it makes his innings all the more impressive.
David was then joined by Mark Provan who scored 28 and Robert Fenton who scored 16 and both stayed in for a few overs to help the bid for a draw. David was finally out for 24 in the 30th over after a marathon 27 over innings. Sean Farrow then saw out the 31st over ending 0 not out and despite 2 wickets falling off the last two balls of the match Northants clung on for the draw finishing on 207 for 9. A mention is also due for Vipers bowler Chris Syrett who finished with bowling figures of 11 overs, 7 wickets for 54 runs.
