Sussex Sharks V Metro BBS National Cricket League Division 1 Report by Ian Morris Highgate 13th August Sussex win the toss and elected to field Metro were awsome with the bat, needing the win they mercilessly battered the Sussex attack with an opening partnership of 225. Rory Field hit 120 not out off just 70 balls and Adam Benjamin made 83 before being run out by Alan Wheatherly, cruelly just short of his century for the second time this season against the sharks. Metro signalled thier attacking intent by declaring at the fall of the first wicket, leaving Sussex a full 37 overs to get 226. Then it rained. Really a lot and 10 overs were lost. Sussex 226 in 27? a very tough ask Sussex progressed at a fair pace, but were never really up with the rate. ADW hit a dashing 33 before a mistimed hook sent him home, Miles went for 2 playing round a straight one...but that was it. Dan Field batted superbly for 51 not out and Alan Wheatherly hit a sparkling 47 not out. Sussex ended 175 for 2, 51 runs short, what price those 10 lost overs? |
