London Sports V Sussex Sharks BBS National Cricket League Division 1 Report by Ian Morris Sunday saw Sussex travel to Goodmayes, London's new home ground. ADW incredibly won the toss again and offerred London the opportunity to bat. The London innings had a stuttery look to it, Ali and Chet both contributing 28, but a string of 3 ducks in the middle order left London reeling at 96-7 things looked pretty desperate for the home side. There then followed an excellent 8th wicket stand of 68 between Andy Whipp (38) and Haq Ismail (30) that pushed London up to 164, before Haq edged one to Smith behind off the bowling of Miles Northwood, the pick of the Sussex attack, returning figures of 3-56 off 9. Andy Whipp was the last to go as London closed on 177 all out off 32.2 overs. The Sussex innings started as so many had last year, with Geoff Smith and Dan Field batting fluently and keeping the scoreboard ticking healthily. Geoff was first to go playing round a straight one from Mohhamad Zaheer, 84-1 in the 11th over. Dan Fiekd scored his maiden 50, in a beutiful knock of 58, including 9 boundaries. Geoff's departure brought Miles Northwood to the crease, full of evil intent. hitting an unbeaten 42 off just 19 deliveries, including 4 massive straight driven 8s, he saw the Sharks home with 8 wickets and 11 overs to spare. Sussex tonight sit proudly atop Division, how long will we stay there? time will tell.... |
